Types of wound dressings
The right dressing depends on the wound type, how much it is draining (exudate), the skin around it and whether infection is present. Your nurse, doctor or wound care clinician will usually recommend a dressing as part of a wound care plan.

Securing dressings and caring for the skin
- Tapes and fixation — Fixomull, Hypafix, Micropore and other tapes for holding dressings and tubes in place.
- Skin prep and antiseptics — chlorhexidine, povidone-iodine and 70% alcohol for cleaning skin before procedures and dressing changes.
- Barrier and skin care — Cavilon No Sting barrier film and adhesive remover wipes to protect fragile skin around wounds and under tapes.
- Wound cleansing — Prontosan wound irrigation solution for cleansing and rinsing wounds.

Important: seek advice from a nurse or doctor if a wound shows signs of infection — increasing redness, swelling, heat, pain, pus or odour, or fever — or if it isn't healing as expected.
