ABM BiWaze Cough Circuits, Filters & Accessories
ABM Respiratory Care is a US medical technology company, founded in 2017 and based in Minnesota, that develops airway clearance and ventilation devices. MEC is the exclusive Australian distributor of the ABM BiWaze Cough System. We supply the device, its ABM circuits, filters and accessories, plus demonstrations, setup and training for hospitals, aged care, NDIS participants and families.
BiWaze Cough Devices
The BiWaze Cough combines cough assist (mechanical insufflation-exsufflation), lung expansion and high-frequency oscillation in one device. It is available as the standard system or with a foot pedal, which lets the clinician or carer control inhale, exhale and pause in Manual mode while keeping both hands on the mask. Both are quoted to suit each service or person. For how BiWaze Cough works, who it suits and how to arrange a demonstration, see our BiWaze Cough System page.
Choosing a BiWaze Cough Circuit
Each standard (single-path) circuit includes a 1830 mm breathing tube, an adapter, a bacterial/viral filter and the patient interface. Choose by interface:
| Interface | Circuit |
|---|---|
| Child face mask | BC21087 |
| Adult small face mask | BC21088 |
| Adult medium face mask | BC21089 |
| Adult large face mask | BC21273 |
| Mouthpiece | BC21092 |
| Tracheostomy | BC21090 |
The standard circuit connects to the device through the patient port adapter, which is washable and replaceable. ABM also makes a dual-lumen (tube-within-a-tube) circuit that keeps inhaled air separate from exhaled air and mucus. Ask the MEC team if your service is considering it.
Replacement Schedule
| Item | Care | Replace |
|---|---|---|
| Breathing circuit | Single patient use | Every 30 days or 90 sessions, whichever comes first, and use a new filter for each new patient |
| Air inlet filter (pack of 3) | Wash in warm water with mild detergent at least monthly, then dry completely | Every six months |
| Patient port adapter | Wash with dishwashing liquid and water, dry completely before reuse | When worn or damaged |
The BiWaze Cough doesn't need routine servicing. Its built-in lithium-ion battery runs therapy for up to two hours away from the power point. A replacement battery must be fitted by authorised ABM service personnel, and MEC arranges this when you order.
Accessories
The carrying bag holds the device and its consumables for travel. It is for carry-on luggage only and won't protect the device as checked baggage. In hospitals and clinics, the mobile cart adds a mounting plate, storage basket, telescopic pole and five castors, three of them locking.
