Choosing a humidification system
| System | Used for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| F&P myAirvo 3 | Humidified high-flow therapy at home and in long-term care, by nasal cannula, mask adapter or tracheostomy connection. | Touch-screen display, remote monitoring through F&P InfoSmart Web, and an optional battery kit for power outages. |
| F&P myAirvo 2 | Humidified high-flow therapy for spontaneously breathing adults and children, including people with a tracheostomy. | Flow from 2 to 60 L/min using room air, with oxygen added from a wall supply, cylinder or continuous-flow concentrator. Heated tube, chamber, water bag and interface are ordered separately. |
| F&P 950 humidifier | Hospital humidification for invasive ventilation, non-invasive (mask) ventilation and Optiflow therapy. | Needs the 950 sensor cartridge and expiratory heater wire adaptor, sold separately. Replaces the MR850, which is in limited supply. |
| F&P my820 | Heated humidification for home invasive and non-invasive ventilation, for adults and children over 5 kg. | Four temperature and humidity settings and an out-of-water alarm. Works with the MR325 manual-fill or MR290 auto-fill chamber. |
myAirvo consumables and replacement
- Interfaces: Optiflow nasal cannulas come in colour-coded sizes, with tracheostomy direct and tracheostomy mask interfaces for people with a tracheostomy or stoma.
- Tubes and chambers: the heated AirSpiral tube and chamber are replaced as the instructions for use direct. Choose the reusable chamber or the MR290 auto-fill chamber with a water bag.
- Filters: replace myAirvo 2 air filters at least every 3 months or 1,000 hours. myAirvo 3 uses its own air filter.
- Water and cleaning: use sterile water such as Baxter sterile water, and the myAirvo 2 disinfection kit for high-level disinfection of the unit.
Humidification FAQs
What is the difference between myAirvo 2 and myAirvo 3?
Both deliver warmed, humidified high flow from a built-in flow generator. myAirvo 3 adds a touch-screen display, remote monitoring through F&P InfoSmart Web and an optional integrated battery. Some consumables differ between models, so check compatibility before ordering.
Can oxygen be added to myAirvo?
Yes. Oxygen can be added from a wall supply, a cylinder or an oxygen concentrator with continuous flow, using the oxygen inlet kit. A pulse-dose concentrator won't work — see oxygen concentrators.
Why is heated humidification used with ventilation?
When the upper airway is bypassed by a tracheostomy, or during high flows and ventilation, the air isn't warmed and moistened naturally. Heated humidifiers condition the gas to help keep secretions thin and the airway comfortable. For people who don't need a heated humidifier, HMEs are a passive alternative.
