Compression bandages

Multi-layer compression bandage systems for venous leg ulcer management. We stock Smith & Nephew Profore in two formats:

  • Profore four-layer kit: a complete system providing graduated, sustained compression, with padding to protect bony prominences.
  • Profore three-layer kit: a wound contact layer, padding, a light crepe bandage and a cohesive compression bandage. It gives reduced graduated compression.

Each kit contains the layers needed for one application. Profore can stay in place for up to a week, depending on the wound and exudate.

Before applying compression bandages

Multi-layer compression should only be applied after a vascular assessment, such as an ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI), and by a nurse or clinician trained in compression bandaging. Compression applied incorrectly, or to a limb with poor arterial supply, can cause harm.

For dressings to use under compression, see wound care. Crepe and retention bandages are in tapes & fixation.
