Nitrile & medical gloves

MEC supplies disposable medical gloves for clinics, hospitals, aged care, home care and cleaning teams — non-sterile nitrile examination gloves in bulk boxes, heavy-duty and long-cuff nitrile, and sterile gloves for procedures and surgery. Every glove in the range is made without natural rubber latex, so they suit staff and patients with latex allergies.

How to choose medical gloves

Pick the glove by the task: whether it needs to be sterile, how much of the forearm needs covering, and how tough the glove has to be.

Examination gloves come in sizes from XS to XL, and a well-fitted glove is less likely to tear and less tiring to wear. Surgical gloves are sized by number, such as 6.5 or 7.5, based on hand measurement. For work with chemotherapy drugs, choose a glove tested for that use, such as the GloveOn Aegis.

Gloves and hand hygiene: gloves do not replace hand hygiene. Clean hands before putting gloves on and after taking them off, and change gloves between patients and between dirty and clean tasks. See our hand sanitiser and hygiene range.

Glove FAQs

Are nitrile gloves better than latex?

For most healthcare and care work, nitrile is now the standard choice. It is latex-free, so it avoids the risk of latex allergy for both the wearer and the patient, and it resists punctures and many chemicals. Latex gloves offer a close fit but can trigger allergic reactions.

What is the difference between sterile and non-sterile gloves?

Non-sterile examination gloves are clean but not sterile, and suit most everyday care. Sterile gloves are individually packed in pairs and used for aseptic procedures and surgery, where anything touching the patient must be sterile.

Are MEC's gloves powder-free?

Yes. Every glove in the range is powder-free, which avoids the irritation and residue that powdered gloves can leave.
